Turangi is a comfortable drive from both Wellington or Auckland.  Rental car companies such as Hertz, Avis and Budget Rent a Car have depots through out New Zealand, and this will give the traveller a good 4 hour drive from either starting points to your fishing destination.

There are daily flights into Taupo from all the international airports, Wellington and Auckland. New Zealand has an excellent network of internal air flights and it is a simple matter to fly from a South island location to the North Island.  Turangi is a 35 minute drive from Taupo.

The other option is a campervan,  motorhome, or even the bus service.

The centre of the North Island where the  mountains  reach the sky, and if you are a skier the snow is  within easy access of Turangi.  Vast areas of  pastureland and beautful native forests are well worth a look.  New Zealand is also world renown for it's beautiful walking tracks.
